Coming to the big screen – Civility & Unrest’s own Joe Dietrich!
Catch Joe at iPic luxury theaters this October as he stars in a dramatic cocktail feature before each movie at the 15 iPic theaters around the country. His cocktail creation, El Revolucion, will be highlighted on the iPic cocktail menu throughout the month.
Joe is no stranger to the silver screen at iPic. He previously worked as a bartender for iPic Redmond. When the national beverage director, Stephane Builard, visited Bellevue recently, the local iPic staff suggested that he check out the creative work that Joe and his team do at Civility & Unrest. Stephane was impressed and immediately offered Joe the opportunity to come to New York to film the October cocktail feature.
“This was an incredible opportunity and I am so honored! I have always wanted to go to New York to experience a handful of bars that have shaped me from afar. I own their books, I have studied their bartenders, I follow them online and I jumped at the chance to visit,” said Joe.
Once filming wrapped, Joe planned his itinerary with great care and found inspiration for some new drinks at Civility & Unrest. Joe kicked things off at the speakeasy Attaboy (previously Milk and Honey), home to the original and iconic cocktail, the “Penicillin.” Next on the list was the very hard to find, Death & Co. Joe says, “Amazing drinks and service – their model will influence our bar program with their endless amounts of infusions, tinctures, batches, syrups, amazing selection and fast preparations!”
Joe says the back bar at the Dead Rabbit is “one of the coolest places I have ever been. I had to buy their menu – it’s a comic book and is dark and edgy.” Joe continued his cocktail research quest at The Back Door, the country’s second oldest continuously operating speakeasy.
“New York was amazing, and one of the most inspirational trips of my life so far,” said Joe. “I have learned so much in such a short time including many techniques and styles that we will be rolling out aggressively here over the next few weeks.”
Be sure to arrive early for your October movie night at iPic to catch Joe’s starring role and order a round of “El Revolucion” and then visit him at Civility & Unrest to see his inspiration in action.
